The proposed Minneapolis city ordinance requiring that all massage and bodywork establishments within the City of Minneapolis must have a City massage establishment license was adopted, and is now in effect.

As a result, all massage and bodywork establishments in Minneapolis must have a city license by July 1, 2014.

The ordinance defines a “massage and bodywork establishment” as “any privately owned place wherein massage and bodywork is offered provided to members of the public.”  “Massage and bodywork” is also defined in the ordinance.

ABMP continues to work in support of a Minnesota state bill providing for voluntary state registration for massage practitioners.  The bill would preempt local massage ordinances, and thus help those practitioners who work in multiple jurisdictions within the state.  A voluntary state registration bill has been introduced in the legislature, but has not been set for hearing.
