ABMP continues to update you regarding the state of continuing education (CE) credits in Pennsylvania. We received conflicting communications regarding CE requirements for the January 31, 2023, renewal cycle, but we were recently contacted by the Assistant Attorney General who advises the Pennsylvania State Board of Massage Therapy (Board) and confirmed that 24 hours of CE are required for this renewal cycle. Sixteen credits must be live, in-person classes, and eight credits can be online courses. This, of course, may change again due to the increase in COVID-19 infections. The situation remains fluid.
Waivers are available for those who cannot comply with this requirement. To file a waiver with the Board, you must:
- Request a waiver in writing with appropriate documentation.
- Include a description of circumstances that sufficiently demonstrates why compliance is not possible.
Waiver requests will be evaluated by the Board on a case-by-case basis. The Board will send written notification of its approval or denial of a waiver request.
File a waiver request here: RA-MASSAGETHERAPY@pa.gov.
As a reminder, the ABMP Education Center is the perfect place to fulfill your CE hours. The ABMP Education Center allows members access to 200-plus hours of free CE. ABMP Certified members have access to an additional 400 hours of CE through the World Massage Conference library of courses. Let us help you learn and earn your CE!
