Oklahoma Proposed Massage Therapy Rules

The State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering is hosting a public hearing March 20, 2020, to consider the amendment and adoption of proposed massage therapy rules.

A public hearing has been scheduled for March 20, 2020, at 2401 NW 23rd Street, Suite 84, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss proposed massage therapy rules based on legislation passed in 2019. Comments from the public will be accepted until the conclusion of the hearing. ABMP has summarized the proposed rule amendments below.

Original Licensure 175:20-5-1

These new rules include the reporting of misdemeanors involving an act of violence on the initial license application. The Board reserves the right to deny a license, impose probationary conditions, or take disciplinary action under such a circumstance.

Professional Conduct 175:20-9-1

Licensees must now report to the Board any disciplinary action taken against them in another state or jurisdiction.

Waiver of Fees for Low-Income Individuals 175:20-15-1

Upon receiving satisfactory evidence, the Board may grant a one-time, one-year fee waiver for low-income applicants seeking initial licensure or licensees seeking license renewal. A low-income individual is a person who has a household adjusted gross income below 140% of the federal poverty line, or who is enrolled in a state or federal public assistance program including but not limited to:

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
