North Carolina COVID-19 State Update—Permission to Practice May 22, 2020

RE: Information regarding North Carolina's back-to-practice permission date and safety guidelines to minimize risk of exposure to, and spread of, COVID-19 in the workplace.

Permission to Practice May 22, 2020

On May 20, 2020, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper issued Executive Order No. 141. The Order moves North Carolina into a Safer at Home "Phase 2," easing some COVID-19 restrictions to help revive the economy while protecting public health. Businesses offering personal care services, including barbershops, beauty salons, waxing and hair removal centers, hair salons, nail salons, manicure or pedicure studios, and massage therapy establishments, may reopen May 22, 2020.

Businesses that decide to reopen should follow the state's interim guidance for salons, massage, and personal care business settings developed by the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Some of the guidelines are mandated, while others are recommended, so please familiarize yourself with these guidelines. The state has assembled a helpful Phase 2 FAQs document to explain Executive Order No. 141. It also addresses requirements for personal care services on page 5 of the document.
