Maine House Bill 0255

A bill has been introduced in Maine, HB 0255, that would define licensed massage therapists as health care practitioners. The bill also expands the terms that are used by massage therapists that would require a massage therapy license. The bill helps ensure only licensed practitioners use massage-related terms to protect the profession. You can find the bill here.

Both the House and Senate have moved this bill forward to the Joint Committee on Health Coverage Insurance and Financial Services meeting at 1:00 pm on February 14th in the Cross Building, Room 220. This is a public hearing with public testimony. You can find more details about this committee and the public hearing here. Representative Brian Hubbell will be presenting the bill.

If you want to submit testimony to the committee, you can send it to the Committee Clerk, Veronica Snow at HCIFS@legislature.maine.gov. Additionally, if you are interested in testifying at the hearing, pro or con, you can attend the hearing.
