Rules were enacted at the end of 2016 changing some of the continuing education (CE) requirements for massage therapists in Iowa. Under the rules now in place:
- 16 hours of CE must be completed every two years for license renewal;
- A minimum of 8 of the 16 hours must be hands-on training. Hands-on training means live, in-person massage therapy technique training courses.
- All of the 8 hours of non-hands-on classes can be taken online, or can be independent study.
- There is no CPR requirement (although CPR hours may be used toward the total required hours if the licensee so chooses).
