Title: Massage Therapist
Requirement: 625 hours and MBLEx or NCBTMB, background check, fingerprints, CPR training, and BBP courses
Renewal: 16 hours/2 years
Alaska House Bill 328 was signed by Governor Parnell on August 11, 2014, and is now the law in Alaska. The law requires that all massage therapists practicing in Alaska must have a state-issued massage license.
The February 17-19, 2014 meetings with legislators at the State Capitol in Juneau were positive, and a massage therapy licensing bill, HB 328, has now been introduced in the Alaska state legislature. As part of the Alaska State Massage License Coalition, a broad coalition of massage therapy organizations and professionals, ABMP has been working over the course of several years for the development of a reasonable massage therapy licensing law in Alaska.
It has recently come to ABMP’s attention that the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) – Alaska Chapter has been working with Representative Sharon Cissna on a bill which would provide for the regulation of massage therapy, including the formation of a state massage board to implement the law.
ABMP’s analysis of the bill has identified the following concerns:
