Alaska Massage Therapy Board Has Been Appointed

The members of the Alaska Board of Massage Therapists have been appointed by the Governor, and the Board held its first Board meeting on February 5 and 6, 2015.  Information about the Board, and the agenda for the February Board meeting, can be found here. 

Update: Alaska Massage Therapy Licensing Bill Introduced

The February 17-19, 2014 meetings with legislators at the State Capitol in Juneau were positive, and a massage therapy licensing bill, HB 328, has now been introduced in the Alaska state legislature.  Its sponsors are Representatives Nageak, Tuck, and Muňoz.  Click here to read the full text of HB 328.  We will continue to keep you updated on the bill’s progress.

As part of the Alaska State Massage License Coalition, a broad coalition of massage therapy organizations and professionals, ABMP has been working over the course of several years for the development of a reasonable massage therapy licensing law in Alaska.

It has recently come to ABMP’s attention that the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) – Alaska Chapter has been working with Representative Sharon Cissna on a bill which would provide for the regulation of massage therapy, including the formation of a state massage board to implement the law.
