The World Championship of Massage 2017 will be held in Copenhagen

Are you the best massage therapist around? Then consider pitting your tapotement skills against the best therapists in the world at the World Championship of Massage, June 3–4, 2017, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The contest consists of five categories, and judges will evaluate the participants in the following areas:

  • Techniques
  • Ergonomics
  • Flow
  • Innovation and development of new methods

The categories are:

  • Swedish massage (Western massage, including classical massage, sports massage, myofascial release, muscle energy technique, neuromuscular techniques, etc.)
  • Asian massage (Thai massage, Shiatsu, Tui Na, Ayurveda, etc.)
  • Wellness massage (Hot stone massage, aromatherapy, spa massage, lymph drainage, holistic massage, etc.)
  • Free Style (Combination of different types of massage, self-treatment, mobilization, cupping, etc.)
  • Chair massage (both Asian- and Western-inspired)

Each participant may compete in one or two categories.

Tennessee Increases Minimum Education Hours

On April 16, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed into law House Bill 1610 and Senate Bill 1588, increasing the minimum massage curriculum hours that an applicant for massage licensure must complete at an approved school for massage, bodywork, or somatic therapy to be eligible for licensure under the Massage Licensure Act. Alaska Massage Board Remains Independent and Autonomous

Executive Order No. 129 sought to dissolve the Alaska Board of Massage Therapists and transfer its functions to the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development (DCCED). The executive order was successfully overturned.

Gainful Employment Rules Compliance Updates
