Pilar Hook, Passionate Bodywork Instructor and Advocate, Has Passed Away

Pilar Hook, a dedicated and passionate instructor and lifelong student of bodywork, passed away after a two-year battle with breast cancer. Hook was an integral part of Ashiatsu DeepFeet Bar Therapy, dedicating over ten years of service to the DeepFeet community.

Ashiatsu DeepFeet Bar Therapy posted the following message on their Facebook page in memory of Pilar Hook:

Our hearts are filled with sorrow as we say so long and farewell to our beloved instructor and dear friend Pilar Hook. After a 2 year battle with breast cancer, Pilar closed the door beautifully and peacefully on this life and departed.

In the summer of 2009 Pilar took her Barefoot Basics training and quickly became passionate about Ashiatsu. She created Synergy Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and began her journey as a Deepfeet instructor who went on to train hundreds of massage therapists in Ashiatsu both nationwide and abroad. She was instrumental in the development of the current Deepfeet instructors training program and both appeared in and helped direct the content for our digital learning curriculum. She was an advocate for and a member of the Florida State Massage Therapy Association and dedicated over ten years of service to the Deepfeet organization.

Those who know Pilar would attest to her devotion and love for teaching and the loyalty she always showed her graduates and the instructors she coached. Pilar Hook was a beautiful woman who radiated love and kindness, she lived boldly and with a deep passion for life. Her spirit lifted those around her and she truly made a lasting impression on every person she encountered. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this most difficult time and our sadness is lessened only slightly with the comforting thought that we all had the privilege to know her, work with her and love her.

We wish you farewell Pilar in your journey. We can't thank you enough for all you have contributed to the barefoot massage community.

May you dance in heaven with a thousand feet...we shall meet again my friend.

“We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.” –Dakota
