Massage Therapy Licensure Hearing Set

The Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 40 on Tuesday February 3rd at 1:30 PM. Senate Bill 40 is the bill supported by a coalition of massage therapists, including ABMP, to enact legislation to provide for a professional license to practice massage.


Colorado - You Must Renew Your Massage License By January 31, 2015

The deadline to renew your Colorado massage therapy license is January 31, 2015. The renewal fee is $76.  If you do not renew your license prior to January 31 you will have a 60 day grace period to renew before your license will be deemed expired. However, a $15 late fee will apply to all licenses renewed during the grace period.  Don’t delay; renew your license now to avoid a late fee.

New York Assembly Bill 9259

New York Assembly Bill 9259 was signed into law by Governor Cuomo on December 17, 2014. Under the new law, a massage therapist who holds a massage license in another state does not need to have a New York State massage license in order to teach the hands on portion of a CE course in New York, as long as the CE course (1) is taught in connection with a CE program that is conducted by a New York State-approved CE sponsor, and (2) pertains to a modality that falls within New York's scope of practice for massage.

Courses to Satisfy New CE Requirement in PA

As we've previously mentioned, the state of Pennsylvania is now requiring that in order to renew your massage license after January 1, 2015, you must have completed two hours of continuing education (CE) in the topic area of child abuse recognition and reporting. An updated list of approved providers of this new CE requirement can be found here. The two hours in child abuse recognition and reporting count toward the 24 hours of required CE.

There Will Be No Change to CE Requirements in Georgia

You may recall that ABMP sent an email to Georgia members on November 19, 2014, letting you know that the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy would be considering a proposal to amend the rule regarding Continuing Education (CE) on December 5, 2014. If adopted, the Board would no longer accept continuing education in the modalities of structural integration, reflexology, movement practices, and energy practices.
