Find Your Bliss

My most recent massage was much needed, as they all are. At one point, while I was prone, the massage therapist hit a stride where it felt like there was more than one person treating me. I was in that zone somewhere between wakefulness, sleep, and all-out dreaming when my brain wondered if another MT had been brought in to help.

I consciously turned my attention to my back and realized both the therapist and I had hit our own respective grooves—theirs, one with techniques that put me in a state of awe, and mine, one that was stunned at the fullness of the movement. I quieted my brain and fell back into relaxation.

The first time is always the hardest (no matter what it is). So, bear with me on this first editor’s note, especially when I’m following in the wake of Darren Buford, who always seemed to put the right words down and who continues to work with Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) on behalf of MTs.

M&B (what we call the magazine in-house) is always deep, always pushing the limits of understanding. But we also know that time (yours, mine, ours) is of the essence. Or at least it feels that way—we’re all too rushed. (Is that a good thing? No, but that’s a different topic of conversation.) When you pick up a magazine, you face choices of what to read, and that’s not lost on us. So, each issue, I’ll pick out a few articles you won’t want to miss in “Highlights.”

And don’t forget, when life is bumpier than it is smooth, flip to the back of the magazine and dive into a little self-care with Heath and Nicole Reed. It might help you find your own bliss.

• Not that you need a reminder about massage being a community, but see how one child’s life left a lasting legacy in “Olivia’s Oasis.”
