The growth of occupational licensing is easily recognizable, especially when you consider massage regulation. In 1959, seven states regulated massage therapy; today 45 states do.

Following passage of a new state law in Alaska, the Alaska Board of Massage Therapists issued regulations filling in details of the licensing requirements and procedures.

So far, it’s been a busy year for massage legislation and regulation. As several state legislative sessions wrap up for the year, let’s take a look at a few noteworthy bills.

On February 25, 2015, the US Supreme Court issued its opinion in North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners v. Federal Trade Commission. The court’s opinion impacts how state professional licensing boards must operate.
