What Clients Never Tell You, with Cindy Williams and Brian Halterman
Information from consumer reports and employer surveys can tell us a lot about what clients want and need from massage therapists. However, hearing feedback directly from clients gives us a new perspective. ABMP Education Program Coordinator Brian Halterman and School Liaison Cindy Williams share interesting consumer perspectives and interview clients to get the comments they didn’t share with their massage therapists. This session asks us to take a hard look at the environments we create for clients, our session plans, client education programs, and other methods we might use to enhance consumer views of massage therapy and improve the marketplace for ourselves and future generations of therapists.

A Conversation with Judith Aston, with Leslie Young
Judith Aston is widely recognized as a pioneer in the art and science of human movement. As a young dancer, Aston was intrigued by the potential of the human body in motion. Early in her career, from 1963–1971, she created movement education programs for a community college, theater groups, dancers, and athletes. In 1968, Dr. Ida Rolf asked Aston to create the very first movement education program for the Rolfing foundation, where Aston taught her movement education curriculum until 1977. Aston is the author of Moving Beyond Posture - In Your Body On The Earth, the Aston Postural Assessment Workbook, and Aston's Walking the New Body DVD. In this behind-the-scenes session, Aston shares, with Massage & Bodywork magazine Editor in Chief Leslie Young, the evolution of her ideas, the questions that keep her curious, and the formative moments in her life and career.

Designing Exceptional Presentations, with Anne Williams
Whether you’re an instructor in a foundational massage program, a continuing education provider teaching a live workshop, or an online speaker delivering a webinar, good presentation skills are important. Many people believe that good presentations skills are based on charisma, a sense of humor, and an innate ability to engross an audience. While some people are “naturals,” everyone can learn how to structure presentations effectively, develop strong visual elements, and use key techniques that build participant engagement. The bottom line: presentations are about skill, not charisma, and every presenter can wow the audience.

“We wanted to make sure that the World Massage Conference was accessible to massage professionals, schools, instructors, and students everywhere,” says Eric Brown, who created the virtual conference with fellow massage therapists Melanie Hayden and Scott Dartnall. “By leveraging technology in the way we do, the massage community can get access to presenters—true legends in the profession—that they would never otherwise have an opportunity to hear in person. This year, we partnered with ABMP to provide discounts on the conference to ABMP professional members.”
ABMP and the World Massage Conference want to support massage and bodywork schools as they honor their special massage instructors. Each state-approved massage school is encouraged to recognize two instructors by completing the application form at the link below. Fill in the name and email address of two instructors of your choice and they will each receive free registration to the conference, access to more than 50 hours of continuing education, and certificates of completion with the successful passage of an online quiz (regularly $249). These instructors can share the live or recorded broadcasts with their students in their massage classrooms and earn their continuing education hours at the same time.
If you are a state-approved massage or bodywork program, complete the application form to register your two special instructors. Encourage these instructors to share the conference by broadcasting the live presentation or recorded replays in the classroom. Act now, because the deadline for this offer is Friday, November 1, 2013.
If you are an instructor at a state-approved massage or bodywork program, encourage your school owner, director of education, or massage program manager to nominate you or special colleagues for this unique gift.
