Claims Happen! Protect Your Practice, with Kristin Coverly
People don't file insurance liability claims against massage therapists and bodyworkers, right? Wrong! Staff members at Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) regularly answer questions about claims. In some cases, therapists were negligent or made choices that put clients at risk. In others, therapists were possible victims of the sue-happy age we live in. Join ABMP Education Facilitator Kristin Coverly to review examples of real (and sometimes shocking) claims. Learn how to use these cautionary tales to safeguard your practice and take steps to prevent unnecessary claims.

The Entry-Level Analysis Project, with members of the ELAP Work Group
Initiated by conversations among the profession’s leadership early in 2011, the Entry-Level Analysis Project (ELAP) goals were to obtain and use research data and analysis of findings from other massage profession documents to inform the creation of an entry-level curriculum map. The map defines the essential elements of entry-level curriculum necessary for safe and competent practice in a massage career and predicts the total number of minimum hours needed to prepare graduates for entry into the massage profession. The project outputs are being used to inform the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards’ Model Practice Act to promote portability of credentials in the massage profession. This session reports on the project findings, resources, and implications for massage professionals, schools, instructors, and students.

“We wanted to make sure that the World Massage Conference was accessible to massage professionals, schools, instructors, and students everywhere,” says Eric Brown, who created the virtual conference with fellow massage therapists Melanie Hayden and Scott Dartnall. “By leveraging technology in the way we do, the massage community can get access to presenters—true legends in the profession—that they would never otherwise have an opportunity to hear in person. This year we partnered with ABMP to provide discounts on the conference to ABMP professional members.”
ABMP and the World Massage Conference want to support massage and bodywork schools as they honor their special massage instructors. Each state-approved massage school is encouraged to recognize two instructors by completing the application form below. Fill in the name and email address of two instructors of your choice and they will each receive free registration to the conference, access to more than 50 hours of continuing education, and certificates of completion with the successful passage of an online quiz (regularly $249). These instructors can share the live or recorded broadcasts with their students in their massage classrooms and earn their continuing education hours at the same time.
If you are a state-approved massage or bodywork program, complete the application form to register your two special instructors. Encourage these instructors to share the conference by broadcasting the live presentation or recorded replays in the classroom. Act now, because the deadline is Friday, May 24, 2013.
If you are an instructor at a state-approved massage or bodywork program, encourage your school owner, director of education, or massage program manager to nominate you or special colleagues for this unique gift. You can also register for less than half price as an instructor by clicking here now! If you register using this link, ABMP will make sure you get access to certificates of completion for CE reporting absolutely free (regularly $50), with the passage of an online quiz.
