Our ABMP members are a diverse group of massage therapists, somatic professionals, bodyworkers, and energy practitioners—all with a seat at the table. Regardless of your area of specialization, ABMP provides a home by offering membership choices and benefits to fit your needs. Choose what's right for you!
The following are benefits included in Certified, Professional, and Practitioner membership levels:

Professional Membership ($199 annually)
Our most popular membership level provides comprehensive liability insurance specifically tailored to meet the needs of massage therapists and bodyworkers, an extensive package of ABMP member benefits, and our renowned expectmore customer service.
Eligibility Requirements
If you practice in a state that regulates massage and bodywork:
If you practice in a state that does not regulate massage and bodywork:
- 500 hours of massage education from an approved program OR
- Passing score on the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) or one of the National Certification Exams (NCE) OR
- Minimum of 50 hours of massage training and a current nursing or physical therapy license.
Certified Membership ($229 annually)
Our most robust membership level. In addition to the baseline benefits, Certified members receive priority membership processing, priority listing on the Massagetherapy.com Referral Service (used by consumers to locate therapists), a unique wall certificate, and use of the ABMP Certified Therapist designation.
Eligibility Requirements
If you practice in a state that regulates massage and bodywork:
If you practice in a state that does not regulate massage and bodywork:
- 500 hours of massage education from an approved program OR
- Passing score on the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) or one of the National Certification Exams (NCE) OR
- Minimum of 50 hours of massage training and a current nursing or physical therapy license.
Maintenance Requirement: 16 hours of continuing education every two years.
Practitioner Membership ($199 annually)
Providing association membership and liability insurance for practitioners in states that do not regulate massage and bodywork.
Eligibility Requirements
Only available if you practice in a state that does not regulate massage and bodywork.
- A minimum of 100 hours of massage education from an approved program.
Are You Also a Skin Care Professional?
If you are also a skin care professional, both your massage and skin care practices can be covered for a single $259 membership fee. By filling out the Optional Skin Care Professional Coverage portion of the application and providing us with a copy of your license to practice esthetics along with your massage credentials, you will become a member of both Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) and Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP) and will receive benefits from both associations. Eligibility Requirements
If you practice in a state that regulates esthetics or skin care:
- Valid current license from that state.
If you practice in a state that does not regulate esthetics or skin care:
- Cosmetology license or certificate of skin care training.

This level of membership does not include liability insurance or certain benefits (website, email account, access to customizable marketing materials, a listing on the Massagetherapy.com Referral Service). Supporting level membership may be a good option if you are taking a hiatus from practice but want to stay connected to the field.
