Kentucky 4/2/08 3/21/06 6/2/05 5/9/05 3/29/04 4/2/08: The Kentucky Board of Licensure for Massage Therapy is appointing an ad hoc committee to make recommendations regarding changes to the existing massage therapy licensing law. A survey was sent to all ABMP members who have an email address on file to gauge their opinions so that we may represent our Kentucky membership on this committee. If you have any comments, please contact Jean Robinson, Government Relations Director, at jean@abmp.com. 3/21/06: SB 91, sponsored by Senators Denton and Worley, is intended clarify existing Kentucky law (SB 03-298) pertaining to massage therapists and the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Massage Therapy (KBLMT). To review the entire bill, go to: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/06RS/SB91/bill.doc 6/2/05: A reminder that the Kentucky Board for Licensure for Massage Therapy will issue licensing for grandfathering until June 24, 2005. Your application must be in their office by June 24th to qualify for grandfathering. Copies of the law, grandfathering provisions and an application can be obtained at http://finance.ky.gov/ourcabinate/caboff.OAS/op/massth/. 5/9/05: Kentucky law now requires practicing massage therapists to be licensed by the Kentucky Board for Licensure for Massage Therapy (KBLMT). The board will issue licensing under the grandfathering provisions until June 24, 2005. Your application must be complete and in their office by June 24th in order to qualify for grandfathering. As of June 25, 2005, the regulations will require no less than 600 education hours and proof of having passed the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB), or other certifying exam. There is a Kentucky coalition that participates in legislation issues concerning massage therapy. The coalition is open to all interested Massage Therapists. ABMP provided the Board with mailing labels for our membership back in November, so if you have not received information from the state you may want to contact them.
