12/6/05: Each biennium, anyone who is already licensed to practice massage therapy in Iowa shall be required to complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education approved by the board. Any massage therapist applying for a license after August 15, 2006 is now required to have 24 hours each biennium of continued education.

4/24/03: House File 204 passed with an overwhelming vote in its favor. The bill provides a one year exemption from massage therapy licensure for reflexologists. During that year, reflexologists will work with a Study Committee, who will evaluate the practice, education and national boards for reflexology. Once the study is completed, the committee will make a recommendation to the General Assembly in January 2004. Iowa reflexologists are hopeful that the committee will recommend permanent exemption.
