The Arizona legislature adopted House Bill 2012, which eliminates the requirement for the State Board of Massage Therapy (Board) to establish communication proficiency requirements for applicants applying for a massage therapy license.
Under the new law, applicants no longer have to prove their ability to use English accurately and appropriately in oral and written form to meet massage therapy licensing qualifications.
Previously, the Board was tasked with determining an applicant’s communication competency and their ability to protect health and safety when practicing massage therapy. If English was not an applicant's native language, the applicant had to pass an internet-based test to evaluate their English communication skills before applying for licensure.
Effective: May 1, 2023.
