Saying Goodbye to Hockey Greatness

We learned this morning that hockey legend and NHL Hall of Famer Gordie Howe has died at the age of 88. We had the privilege of working with Howe and his family back in 2012 for an article about the benefits of Rolfing. Howe’s son Mark (also an NHL player and Hall of Famer) first used the bodywork to recover from otherwise career-ending injuries he suffered as a player in 1991; Mark then brought his father (a man who had played in more than 2,400 games and had the scars to prove it) to Rolf practitioner Robert Toporek in Philadelphia to see what could be done to relieve the legend’s pain. The pictures in our feature article show just how much somatic longevity Howe gained through his Rolfing sessions. We were honored to have had access to the man known simply as “Mr. Hockey” and share his story again with you here in his honor: "Rolfing a Legend."
