Update on Michigan Continuing Education Requirement

Although the Michigan massage therapy licensing law went into effect in 2014, the rules regarding continuing education (CE) have not been issued by the Michigan Board of Massage Therapy yet. The process of drafting and approving the rules is ongoing, and we can't give you a firm statement as to when the Board will issue the rules or what specifically the rules will say once they're final.

Grace Period for CO Massage License Renewals

We have received new information from the State about massage licensing renewals. Per its notification below, DORA's Division of Professions and Occupations (DPO) will be allowing a grace period for this year's renewals, until March 31, 2017, with no late fee. This means that you will have until March 31, 2017 to renew your license and pay the $179 license renewal fee, instead of December 31, 2016.

Oklahoma Massage Regulation Update

As you know, Oklahoma passed its massage therapy licensing statute this past spring. The next step was for the Governor to appoint members to the Massage Advisory Board, which will advise the Cosmetology Board on issues regarding massage therapist licensing. The Governor completed the appointments to the Advisory Board, and the Boards have begun their work. A primary function of the Advisory Board and Cosmetology Board is to write the rules (regulations) that will fill in the details of the massage licensing statute. The deadline for the Boards to submit rules is December 23, 2016.

Michigan License Renewal Information

Michigan massage licenses must be renewed every 3 years, by October 31. Your license expiration date is stated on your license.  Also, you should receive a postcard from the state approximately 3 months before your expiration date reminding you to renew and providing the website which you must go to in order to renew online, which is http://www.michigan.gov/elicense (click on “Massage Therapy”). The renewal fee is $225.
