Alaska Massage Licenses Must Be Renewed by September 30, 2017; You Must Complete 6 Hours of Continuing Education Before Then

All Alaska Massage Therapy licenses must be renewed by September 30 of odd-numbered years. That means that you must renew your current massage license by September 30, 2017.

License renewal applications will be available on the Board's website sometime after July 1, 2017.



March 22, 2017 Stakeholder Meeting on Proposed Changes to Massage Rules

The Colorado Department of Regulation (DORA), Office of Massage Therapy Licensure will hold a Stakeholder Meeting on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 1:30 pm to discuss proposed Massage Therapy Rules 4, Rule 5 and Rule 13. Per the notice sent out by the state, "stakeholder input is crucial to achieving the Department's missions of consumer protection and effective licensure and enforcement, without unnecessary impediment to the economic market."  We encourage you to attend the meeting if you're interested in the rulemaking process and would like to be heard.


Voice Your Opposition to Proposed Illinois Massage Tax

An amendment was added to Senate Bill 9 in the Illinois Legislature last week which would impose a sales tax on massage therapy services. The bill includes a new list of taxable "personal care services," including massage, manicuring, tattooing, and tanning. However, "personal care services" are excluded from the tax if they are performed by, or under the order of, a licensed physician, physician's assistant, nurse, or a licensed chiropractor. Hair cutting, coloring, and styling are also exempt.


Delaware Bill Proposes Massage Establishment Licensing

Delaware House Bill 35 has been introduced in the state legislature as a proposal to require massage establishment licensing in the state. If the bill passes in its current form, massage businesses would be required to hold a separate massage establishment license in addition to a general business license, and in addition to individual licensure for the therapists working in the business.





Oklahoma Massage Therapy License Applications Are Now Available. Deadline is May 1, 2017 – Please Apply as Soon as Possible

As we previously informed our Oklahoma members, under Oklahoma's new massage therapy law, starting May 1, 2017, all massage therapists practicing in Oklahoma must hold an Oklahoma state massage therapist license. If you do not hold a massage license by May 1, 2017, you cannot practice massage therapy in Oklahoma after May 1, 2017 until you do get a license.
