ABMP Legislative Report
North Carolina 6/8/04 7/7/00 6/23/00 6/8/04: Call to Action! The North Carolina Board of Massage & Bodywork Therapy has posted their updated proposed 2004 revisions to the rules of the board at their website, www.bmbt.org, Comments must be received by the board prior to their next board meeting on June 17, 2004. You are also encouraged to attend the meeting on the 17th at 10am. Meetings are open to the public and the meeting schedule and a map to the location can also be found on the board's website. As some of you many be aware, many therapists in North Carolina have experienced difficulty with the existing rules (i.e. absence of continuing education pro-ration, absence of inactive status licensure, and the inability to issue a reciprocal license) ABMP is drafting a letter to the board with recommended revisions to the rules. We encourage you to review the revised rules and notify the board of your concerns. Certainly, many therapists have expressed their concern related to the "duty to report" and "aiding and abetting" that appear within the original rules adopted by the board. Time is of the essence. Let the board know your position prior to June 17th, 2004. Should the board pursue adoption of the rules currently posted, the rules are referred to the North Carolina legislature for adoption. 7/7/00: The North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy is ready to begin the licensure program for therapists.
