3/4/04: House Bill 1368, if passed, would exempt from licensure those therapists who are licensed, registered, or certified by another state or territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a foreign country if:
(1) The requirements for licensure, registration, or certification are equivalent to those in this state; and
(2) Such persons are incidentally called into this state to teach a course related to massage and bodywork therapy, or to provide massage therapy services as part of an emergency response team working in conjunction with disaster relief officials.
2. Any person not licensed in this state who wishes to provide massage therapy services at special events such as conventions, sporting events, and traveling shows or exhibitions shall hold a current Missouri special events massage therapist permit, renewable annually, for a fee to be determined by the board of therapeutic massage and bodywork. To qualify for a Missouri special events massage therapist permit, a person must be licensed, registered, or certified by another state or territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a foreign country where the requirements for licensure, registration, or certification are equivalent to those of this state.

A person who does not hold a license to practice massage therapy or a license to operate a massage business or is not exempted from obtaining a license shall not use the words "massage", "body work", or any of their synonyms on any sign or in any other form of advertising, unless specifically exempted by the board. [Any advertisement by a massage therapist or a massage business shall contain the license or registration number of such therapist or business.]

2/20/02: A reminder from the State Board: Missouri has completed its first year of licensure effort. Over 1,000 massage therapists have been licensed and the Board would like to remind licensees that massage therapist must maintain adequate client/patient records and list the license number with their name in printed advertisements.

Updating telephone and newspaper ads or promotional materials requires:

. All promotional materials to list full name and license number. Example: Jane Doe, LMT #2001000011
. If offering a free or reduced service, clearly state whether they may be other charges and the price range
. Refrain from false, misleading, deceptive, or sexually suggestive statements
