8/29/03: Massage Therapy Establishment License Rule Change Previously exempt offices of medical doctors, chiropractic physicians, acupuncturists, podiatrists, dentists and physical therapists where massage therapy is offered must now be licensed as a massage establishment.

The Joint Administrative Procedures Committee said that the Board of Massage Therapy does not have the authority to grant exemption. This rule change is effective August 5, 2003. The board has agreed to grant temporary permits (120 days) while applications are processed.

2/25/02: The Florida Association of Massage Educators is challenging the Florida Board of Massage Therapy's decision to increase the educational hours required to obtain a Florida Massage Therapy License. The board is considering an increase of 200 hours, from 500 hours to 700 hours. To date, the board has not provided any data to support a need for the additional education.
